Enabling desktop effects causes the slider and scroll button in adobe reader to disappear as soon as I point mouse to the scroll bar; please see the screenshot. Can anybody please help?

This is a bug that should be reported to adobe and to the compiz project bugs.launchpad.net. Turning off advanced effects by going into System->Preferences->Appearance->Visual Effects and selecting "None"
should allow you to work efficiently.

Reporting the bug is fine, but I need a resolution:-). Should I downgrade adobe reader? Is it only me who has this problem?

I want to use compiz because metacity is quite slaggish (!) when I switch between desktops. You can see with a naked eye that it takes time to redraw windows. It is not a problem of an old hardware, the PC is one month old with NVIDIA 9500GT card. Compiz performs much smoother on the same hardware.

Works ok for me, unsure as to why you're experiencing the problem.

What GTK theme are you using? Try changing the theme.

I use Clearlooks - It is easier on my eyes. I tried switching back to Human, but the problem remained.
