Desktop Icon as Popup Menu

I'm looking for a solution that allows creating a desktop icon, folder or launcher that on mouse click opens a popup menu similar to the panel menus. In effect, this would be a floating panel with a single menu with several sub-menus. This would allow grouping of similar links under a single icon/menu on the desktop? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Thank you - myGtkMenu is exactly what I was looking for. With myGtkMenu I can group desktop launchers into popup menus! Simplifies the desktop - way cool!
