Ugrade results in flakey network

I took the plunge and upgraded to 8.10. Strange network behavior has resulted. I get the red X at the network icon but I have an IP address and can manover on my home network, and after fiddeling get some slow internet but most pages fail, like I get really poor DNS service.

So, any ideas how what to do?
