mouse/key bindings not working with openbox + gnome

In my autostart.sh script for openbox I'm loading gnome-settings-daemon to handle gtk windows, backgrounds, etc. but my problem is that none of the key or mouse bindings defined in rc.xml for the desktop work anymore. I should be able to wheel up/down on the desktop to change the workspace but that doesn't happen any more, also C+A+Left/Right doesn't do it either.

Could this be caused by me running gnome-settings-daemon? Does anyone know how I can fix this?
