first install, Partition query

Hi Everyone.

I have a but of a problem here and i was wondering if you could help me out.

I am new to linux so i am a bit out of my depth here but i have windows xp which i want to keep i am using the latest version for netbooks it has detected windows and has told me the following

SDA1 vista loader 6gb NTFS
SDA2 windows xp 71gb NTFS
and
SDA3 as free space. NTFS

i want to keep windows partly because i am use to it but because some stuff is windows only.

So how do i set linux up on the free space without wiping windows, i know that putting windows on the whole thing would be easier from my point of view but i am just not experienced enough in linux to go it a lone

well a bit of good news i tinkered about a bit and realised my mistake.

when it asked me to unmount partitions i selected no instead of yes, so it is now installing i will update on how it goes
