Ok so the RPG language is ancient. How ever I have a job at software development company (private business) when I finish school, and they use the RPG language. I'm wondering how many of you have even heard of it; #1, and #2; if so do any of you know where to get a free RPG compiler from? I can't find one any where.

EDIT: As well, what modern language would be closest to RPG? Perl?

I've heard of RPG (as in "Report Program Generator") but haven't actually seen a machine that runs it for some time. I actually gave it a try once back in 1980 on an IBM 1130, if memory serves correctly.

A quick google search a moment ago gave me plenty of stuff about role playing games, but that's not particularly helpful.....

I did find a forum that might be of help: http://www.tek-tips.com/threadminder.cfm?pid=317

When Google fails, Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_RPG) is always there.

Ha 1980, before I was even born. Like I said RPG is ancient ;), and it's almost impossible to find anything on it. Thanks for the link I'll give it a look. And that's my biggest problem when searching for RPG is that I only get results for Role Playing Games lol. If I can find a compiler I could be probably the only person of my generation to know RPG and will be golden at this company.

I'm glad I don't need to do searches like that :D

Really, when you need information about that, you should search the full name and hope people don't shorten it too often. Also, try doing a "RPG -role -playing -game", the minuses mean search without (in Google), so that should help slightly.

Good luck with your job.
