I was reading through some other threads and the guides upgrading:

Network Upgrade for Ubuntu Desktops -

Will I be able to upgrade over the internet if I am running 8.04? I ask because it asks you to be running at least 8.10.

I am having troubles making a bootable USB with 9.04 and I don't have any CD-Rs on hand, and hoping I could just install the needed upgrade from the internet.

Thank you for your time. Ubuntu is a wonderful OS, and I hope to see it continue to grow in the near future. ^-^

Unfortunately, you need to upgrade to 8.10 first, then from 8.10 to 9.04, as far as I know.

Heavens... I can just upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10, and then to 9.04.
Obviously, relase notes are there for a reason. :D

Much easier to backup everything and do a clean new install of 9.04. You will get rid of a vast amount of crud, and can then of course even realise you don't really need half of the things you've installed in the past, just to try them out.
