Hi trixman.

Hardy is rock solid. I tried 8.10, but 9.04 has some cool new features, like

a live usb creator.

904 is a very good release except crap intel drivers.I have cooling problems on Hardy. It is going better with every release it just needs more bug fixing.

All 3 of those releases has been good for me. I now use Mythbuntu 8.04 & Ubuntu 9.04. I like both of them.

I tired out 8.04 but I didn't like it that much for some reason. Loving 9.04 though.

8.04 for me on our three machines. Main reason? They need to be rock solid reliable (both at uni, Skype phone, no landline).

9.04 is the only one that works with my new hardware and, besides the intel driver issue which can be remedied, I think it's great.

I think 8.04 was the biggest improvement of them all. I started with 7.04. My 8.04 install lasted 18 months. I would have kept it but I upgraded laptops, now I have 9.04. I still have a 6.06 server that's running great.

The biggest improvements in latest releases have been in more recent hardware, like wifi. "Way back" in 2006 wifi wasn't so common. Now my phone has wifi. It's good that Ubuntu makes our lives easier.

I went through three distribution updates in last three days - hardy-->karmic koala(testing).

Hardy true to it's name is rock solid and fast.
Intrepid was much slower compared to hardy.
Jaunty didn't work on my intel hardware. First the xorg refused to start. Then the webcam was not detected and finally I was unable to use skype due to sound problems.

So I decided to try karmic as I had nothing to loose anyway.

...and wow Karmic, it's going to rock when it is released.

I always use the latest release, because I like to have the newest versions of programs. :)

I use 8.04 on the three machines I need to "always work" (one server and two dekstops).

I wasn't all that thrilled with 8.10, but it still got the job done.

9.04 powers my laptop and torrent slave. I really like the new features. It's a constant reminder how much Ubuntu (and other Linux OSs) evolve over short periods of time.

I haven't tried Karmic yet, but if it meets expectations I think it'll make me leave 8.04 LTS.

I think that 8.04 is stable

I think that 8.10 was slow

and I think that 9.04 is stable, fast and possibly the best Ubuntu release yet.

That is pretty much my setup with the three machines but my laptop is the server and included in the three machines.

I recently fixed up a computer for friends and loaded 9.04. Five kids from baby to thirteen year old so I added the Edubuntu add-on packackes for preschool, primary and secondary. I have been using 8.04 since it came out but 9.04 looks great and I had the whole thing ready to rock in about an hour (including Edubuntu add-ons).

I am well impressed and the USB creator is a great idea. Look forward to seeing what Karmic Koala has to offer, and being Australian, am going to love telling people the name of my OS when it comes out! :)

8.10 is probably the best - older ATI cards can work with proprietary drivers, you've got Network Manager 0.7 which is easy to use with mobile broadband, and you've not got Intel driver problems.

I use 8.10 on two of my computers and 9.04 on two. The 9.04 ones will eventually be upgraded to 9.10, but I don't think the 8.10 ones will be upgraded until 10.x.

In a virtual machine 9.04 minimal install to fiddle and learn. The stuff that needs to work is on 8.04.

Started out with 8.10 - never really was really fluent - always a little niggle here or there. Still got it on my dial up machine, because I got the modem going - and who knows if I will ever get that right again.
