Hello Ubuntuers!

This is my first post, and I consider myself relatively new to Ubuntu. I have Ubuntu 9.04 installed on VPC 2007, but I am unable to increase my screen resolution. (It is at 800x600). I have googled a lot, and found several things that appear to be resolutions, but none of them have solved my problem yet. This on here: http://nemesisv.blogspot.com/2009/04/installing-ubuntu-904-on-microsoft.html (http://nemesisv.blogspot.com/2009/04/installing-ubuntu-904-on-microsoft.html) was the colsest, increasing my resolution to 864x600, but what I would like is 1024x768 or even 1240x1024.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Joe

i had a similar problem ( i have fujitsu siemens esprimo mobile v5535) and also had resolution 800x600. i have installed driver made by "one good man" who had same problem as me XD
you have to install driver for your graphic card and then it would work ;)
if your graphic card is SiS integrated, then i could help you ;)

Thanks shicy, your desire to help is much appreciated.

According to Wikipedia, the emulated graphics card in VPC 2007 is : Standard SVGA VESA graphics card (S3 Trio 32 PCI with 4 MB video RAM, adjustable up to 16 MB) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Virtual_PC).

I do not know how to install drivers for graphics cards. Any help would be apprecated.

Thanks,
Joe

Ok, Thanks again, shicy.

Here is how I finally solved the problem : I switched from Microsoft VPC to Sun Microsystems Virtual Box. (Just Google for "Virtual Box" and you'll find it.) The screen resolution was still 800x600 but to fix it was real easy: Here's a link : http://www.lockergnome.com/ethanbaker/2008/08/04/increasing-screen-resolution-in-ubuntu-under-virtualbox/

What's more Virtual Box has a MUCH better virtual graphics card. I have all of the cool wiggling windows, etc. http://ubuntuforums.org/images/icons/icon10.gif

Thanks again for your help, shicy.
