I had a clean install on Ubuntu on my other PC, enabled some of the extra updates from Software Sources, updated, and I had Firefox 3.5. Is this right?

I'm compiling it right now!

Source code (ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/3.5.1/) (Don't download if you are not compiling Firefox. This is not an "extract-and-run" package!)

I'd suggest using the x32 bit version, cause the x64 version is slower by quite a bit (on Linux at least). Sunspider proves that too.

I updated last night. Gnash doesn't work. I can't get streaming video.

Edit: I take that back. Its started working after I logged out & back into Ubuntu. Go figure.

Yes. On *nix.

I'm also hoping it'll fix a bug on FF3.5 Win. Keeps churning the HDD reading some useless stuff. A directory that has Opera + IE stuff in it.

I just finished compiling it. Feels the same as 3.5 and the flash fullscreen crash bug it's still there.

See Solution [FOT008] from the Troubleshooting section of the Firefox optimization and troubleshooting thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1193567&highlight=FOT008).

It's the case on all platforms as there is no x86-64 port of TraceMonkey yet. x64 Firefox builds use SpiderMonkey only. Mozilla is currently working on a x64 version of TraceMonkey which will probably be released with Firefox.next.

Sure wish that had been fixed - a bit of bother to edit the startup script again.

this doesn't feel right. 32bit software on 64bit operating system, even though it should work. i remember those times using ndiswrapper etc. don't want this again.. even though i have no specific reason using 64bit OS, i do it, because my CPU can... and until now i have no problems.. flash, java, oss, ooffice 3.1, vlc 1.0, firefox 3.5.1...

thx anyway!

Does anyone know of a firefox-3.5[.x] compile-from-source guide for Ubuntu?

If your not sure what version of Firefox your running, then with Firefox up go to Help>About Mozilla Firefox, under the Firefox text is the version.

I myself have been running 3.5.1 on both XP and Ubuntu. ^.^

See this thread where I asked about it. You might find a better alternative then actually compiling it yourself. ^.^
