View Full Version : [ubuntu] After upgrade to Ubuntu 9.04 LCD screen freeks out

Hello all:

I had my machine running v8.10 with no problems. When I upgraded to v9.10 my lcd screen goes to a white smear almost looking like video feedback.

My machine is a OEM Micro Solutions MTC2 (police car computer). It uses the intel 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device for onboard video.

The kicker is if I hook up an external monitor... Both the external monitor and the lcd on the computer works....

Bizzare....

hi,

can you show us the output of


cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf

note the capital X, not x.

then, can you boot off of a live CD, tell us what you see there, and post the output of all the same commands you did when booting normally?


that will allow us to compare and contrast, assuming it works on the live cd. make sense? :D

Live CD 9.04 does the same thing as booting from my HD. Just at the end of the splash screen the LCD goes to smeer. I am able to log in... I'm using webmin to access files etc...

Last night I tried something different I booted a kernal (2.6.27-14) and for 1 session it worked.... On reboot it went back to working just like kernal 2.6.28-13)


At this point I can't do anything with 9.04 without a screen....

it appears that something with 9.04 does not work well with your hardware... if it where me, this is what i would do:

1) find an 8.04 or 8.10 live cd. boot from it and backup all of my important documents and my /home folder.
2) re-install 8.04 or 8.10, restore my important documents and /home folder. (/home contains program settings, etc, so when you install 'software x', it will use the same settings, bookmarks, saved games, whatever, that you had from before.)
3) hope for better from 9.10.



i am certain that it is possible to make 9.04 work with your system but, alas, that is beyond my abilities to help you with, and probably a huge damn headache. i myself skipped 8.10 for similar reasons, and 9.04 was flawless on my system.

Before I toss in the towel... I found a weird workaround. If I hook up a dead monitor (no power) The computer boots and the LCD screen is happy...

I tried this wit both an old dead CRT and a newer LCD monitor. It worked with both....

For now I'll toss the beater CRT in the back seat.... When I get back I'll play with making a dummy DB15 plug that will do the same thing...
