View Full Version : Ubuntu Email?

This is more of a suggestion, though if this does exist that'd be awesome.

Basically, I think that Ubuntu should have their own email service. Microsoft has it with Hotmail/Live Mail, and Apple has it with .mac. I don't think we should have it just because the competition has it, but in that it might spread the word of Ubuntu.

Consider this scenario: John Doe has a email address, johndoe@ubuntu.com. A person with AOL mail is looking around for a new email provider, since he/she is dissatisfied with AOL's interface and overall service. They check out ubuntu.com and see that it's a Linux Distro, and then sees a link to information about the email.

It'd describe how Ubuntu Email would integrate into the Ubuntu OS, and talk about things like storage and things like that.

As for details of this idea, I don't know much about email other than storage. I was thinking it could sort of like Ubuntu One. 2gb free for a normal user, 10gb for a paying user.

Any thoughts?

I believe Ubuntu already gives free email address out to certain members. But I think it has something to do with being a loco member or some such thing.

Ubuntu members are allowed the use of @ubuntu.com email addresses.

For example I have joeb454@ubuntu.com :)

Yeah I've heard of this. What I mean is something for the every day user. Maybe it could come bundled with Ubuntu One, so the address would be johndoe@ubuntuone.com, if that conflicts with the @ubuntu.com name already set up.
