When I first installed ubuntu, I did so to a 4gb flash drive using the desktop install CD. Everything went well and I enjoyed my test bed quite muchly. When I though about trying to install with an encrypted file system, however, I ran into a snag.

I downloaded the alternate install CD and started the process. Everything SEEMED to install fine, but when I tried to boot from the flash drive, I get an OS not found error. Thinking my flash drive was dead, I tried reinstalling from the desktop CD and everything works fine.

Can anyone think of a reason why the alternate install CD wouldn't work with a flash drive? (The CD passed the media test and I didn't try to install it on a hard drive due to lack of a drive.)
