UPDATE: RESOLVED
I followed the instructions here (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UNR/Installation/Easy), but after booting to the flash drive with the image of UNR, I only see a blank black screen with a blinking white cursor at the top left.
I prepared the Cruzer micro 4G using flashnul, as per the instructions, flashnul reported no errors.
I have an HP mini 110.
UPDATE: removed sandisk's U3 software from the drive, which took some digging, repeated the process, and everything works fine.
