I can get it downloaded and it tells me to put it on a disc...well it won't write it onto the disc to where it will work correctly. Is there anyway to do it without the disc? If so, what are the steps? Complete newb.

if you or another Ubuntu (8.04 or 8.10) right click on what you downloaded (hopefully an iso image) and write image to cd that should work

simply its the iso that needs to be copied to a disk as an image

if you have brasero installed it will make it that little bit easier

what is your current OS? if Ubuntu right click the iso and choose write to disk or open brasero and burn as an image to CD. If you are in windows see this : burn image (https://help.ubuntu.com/9.04/switching/installing-burning.html)

For a usb flash drive use unetbootin (http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/) or if in ubuntu install usb creator by opening a terminal and running this command
sudo apt-get install usb-creator When installed go System > Administration > USB Startup Disk Creator.

Make sure you set BIOS to boot from USB or Removable drive when trying to boot from the usb drive!
