I have just put together a new computer. Silverstone SG02 Case, AMD Phenom 2.8 cpu, Asus Motherboard so on a so forth. Made the ubuntu boot key with unetbootin and have set the bios to boot priority usb. I am booting the motherboard splash screen arrives and then nothing after that. there is an error message, "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key". It was my understanding that with the usb drive set in the bios and usb plugged in, this would start an install of ubuntu?

Not sure how to handle this, any help appreciated.

Booting the Live CD image on a USB should give you the option to try Ubuntu or install, just like the Live CD.
There's a lot of things that could be wrong, especially with new hardware. It has been a while, but I remember having problems with unetbootin.
Have you tried using the USB drive on another computer? If it boots, then the problem is your hardware. If it doesn't boot, the problem may be unetbootin.
Do you have a CD drive? Try the Live CD.
