Since I have been using Ubuntu, I have always used the default visual effect setting - the 'normal' mode.
I switched to 'none' (no visual effects) to see if it would improve my system performance at all. It didn't and so I decided to switch back to the original 'normal' mode. In the last month my computer will not let me switch back - it goes all funny for about 30 seconds and then says that
Desktop Effects cannot be enabled
How do I get round this?
