anyone know about these things? i want to get one (ebay). i hear they're in a lot of the top 10 pieces of crap of all time lists. i don't really know much about them except that i think they're pretty and i like the graphics (plus, newton is a hero of mine, only for his commitment to alchemy). do i need to be able to hook this thing up to a pc? etc.

Just buy a Zaurus (http://www.zaurususergroup.org/) and run NewtonOS (http://www.kallisys.com/newton/einstein/en) on it.

Much better.:D

i've been looking at the nokia 770, which also can do the newton os. i want the original because it's pretty and it has a reputation that rivals the edsel. it's looking like i'll be able to get it for around $30. the nokia is an 'eventually' kind of thing (the fact that it doesn't have a phone is a major plus). that zaurus is pretty, though.

fuscia,

I've just accidentally found this message. I have a MP 120, one 2000, one 2100.

The 120 is crap, to be honest. It was more an experiment (a bad attempt to create a cheap jewel) than a real machine in my opinion. The 2000/2100 can still be used in everyday life. They're amazing machines in a way, and there's quite a strong community of hard-core newton fans ready to help you.

But if you need a pda for everyday use, I'd suggest you to get a Palm. If you're looking for a second hand one, I'd go for the T3. The TX seems to be excellent, but I've never used it. It has built-in wi-fi, which is nice when you have to leave your computer to go pee. ;-) Otherwise, hold your horses for a few months - I've read somewhere that Palm is going to release a linux-based pda next summer (2006).

i got a hold of a 120 and it's pretty limited. i'm much more addicted to my palm v. i didn't know they would be coming up with a linux pda. that might be cool, although lately, i'm edging back more towards the laptop idea.
