Trying to upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10 on my way to 9.04. The dist upgrade on update manager gives me 2 errors:

Some third party entries in your sources.list were disabled. You can re-enable them after the upgrade with the 'software-properties' tool or your package manager.

and

W:Failed to fetch http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/dists/intrepid/Release Unable to find expected entry commercial/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?)
, E:Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

I am lost. Can anyone help?

Awesome, heading off to work. Can't wait to get home and try this. Thanks for the help. I'll let you know what happens.

Thanks for the help. After two days I got the monitor working (with the help of a friend) and the sound on again. I was told that the dist upgrade was dicey and if I had the storage I would have used the disk (it is sitting right in front of me). Learning as I go. Thanks again.
