just install ubuntu 8.04 and i have few questions

hi!,
i have install ubuntu 8.04 yesterday and they are perfect !!!they rock! :guitar:
but i have few questions becouse i am noob.... :P
when i am trying to open my hard disk it says CANNOT MOUNT THE VOLUME
how i can fix it??
and something else when i am trying to enable visual effects it says
desktop effects could not be enable my graphic card is ati radeon 4850
what should i do?

Are you dual booting windows and ubuntu? If windows isn't started correctly (i.e. you power off during the startup process of windows) the NTFS partition puts a "safemode" flag on it and Linux can't mount it. This may be your issue.

For the graphics issue, you probably have to enable third party drivers. System-Admin-Hardware devices, and see if there are anything in there.

the true is that i tried to doual boot but becouse of my fault i now have only linux and i am realy happy becoyse they are log way better!
but i can open hard disk :(
