list packages that you where or are surprised to find in synaptic, or in the repos in general.

Package: anarchism
An exhaustive exploration of Anarchist theory and practice

as far as i can tell it is nothing more than a collection of essays about anarchy and revolution and socialism and whatnot that it puts in /usr/share/doc...

...i wonder what the odds are of some dictator seeing this, and banning Ubuntu/Debian in his realm?

anyway, what crazy/odd/unexpected things have you found in the repos?

Funny manpages (funny-manpages) is good. I like the entry for rtfm. I particularly enjoyed reading Copyright Does Not Exist, a book about hacker culture (cfi-en), although I was really surprised to find it in there.

...the odds are almost nothing, since, if he was such a kind of a person so as to find out this package in synaptic, he wouldn't have ended up being a dictator in the first place.;)

Personally I am exteremely reluctant to use something that a dictator wouldn't be banning.

Great language, that.

(For the intrepid, install the package "bf" and paste the code above into a text file and save it. Then, from the terminal, run "bf filename" to see what it's all about.)

rig

RIG (Random Identity Generator) is a free replacement for a shareware
program out there called 'fake'. It generates random, yet real-looking,
personal data. It is useful if you need to feed a name to a Web site,
BBS, or real person, and are too lazy to think of one yourself. Also,
if the Web site/BBS/person you are giving the information to tries to
cross-check the city, state, zip, or area code, it will check out.

I though that was pretty neat....

How about the package dict-bouvier?

This is the 1856 Revised Sixth Ediition of John Bouvier's law dictionary,
formatted for use with the dictd server. It is an excellent, if dated,
way to look up information about legal words and principles.

Kim Jong-Il is an internet expert (http://arstechnica.com/old/content/2007/10/north-korea-dear-leader-kim-jong-il-im-an-internet-expert-too.ars). I bet he already knows about it.

Yeah. Sounds like something that would work when BugMeNot is just not enough.

Find sources, such as stars and galaxies, in astronomical images. The input data files are in FITS file format, and are analyzed to compute the locations of sources, with the ability to distinguish between galaxies and stars using a neural-network technique.

I was a little disappointed, I have to say.
