I am upgrading the RAM in my HP a705w but am confused with the RAM specs with all the DDR1, 2, and 3 and the number of pins and such. But can someone point me in the direction of 1 GB of RAM (512MB x 2) on Newegg that is at a relatively low price ($20 at absolute most).

Here is the compatibility chart for RAM from HP :

You'll be wanting something off this page probably

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010170147%201052107965%201052407860&name=DDR%20333%20%28PC%202700%29

I doubt 1GB is going to happen for $20 or less.

1GB of PC2100 DDR isn't going to happen for under $20... Not unless you find it on sale somewhere.
You could probably do half that amount for $20 if I had to guess.

I was able to find a 1GB stick for $15 but my mobo cant do that. Oh well, I will bite the bullet and get the $30 options they have.

They cost a bit more than NewEgg without shipping and I am trying to get some RAM into the shipment of my friend's new parts so I don't have to pay for shipping and he is buying in a day or so.

Crucial is awesome! Their RAM is pretty good but the site is fantastic. We use it all the time at work to find the right RAM for customers. Conversations usually go like this:

Me: "Hi there, how are you today?"
Customer: "I'm great, my computer needs more memory though."
Me: "No problem, did you know what kind of memory you needed?"
Customer: "No, but here's the model of my computer."
Me: *Goes to Crucial.com, enters info, done*

OP, here (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010170147%201052107965%201052407860%20105230847 6&name=1GB%20(2%20x%20512MB)&ActiveSearchResult=True) are the three options Newegg has for 2x512MB PC2700. $35 appears to be the best price.

^^^ what they said.

A little more info you might or might not care about...

The mid-range top sellers hare the best prices. Slower, less popular RAM is more expensive. If I want to add another 4 GB of RAM (2 x 2GB, identical to what I have now), it will cost be about the same as your 2 x 512MB. Much bigger and faster... but cheap.
