"Really good?"

Well, that is subjective, of course. I disagree with you, though.

For PSA's like those, they aren't unethical, but they have the innate ability to cause severe emotions, especially in those who have lost loved ones in such events. The reason why I'm not absolutely opposed to them in PSA's is because sometimes it might take that to make people realize that they shouldn't drive recklessly, drink and drive, or fail to wear a seatbelt. When people get too comfortable or careless, bad things can happen

I absolutely detest advertising companies that use (as you correctly termed it) "shock advertising." I only watch them to get the name of the company, so I can add them to my "S-list" of companies I refuse to do business with. There is a car insurance company here that has used that kind of add, and I will never use them. (I think it was AllState, though I could be mistaken. I'd have to check the list). They pulled the ads, but they should have never made them. I consider the practice very unethical.

I strongly support the freedom of speech, so I don't think they should be banned in any sense.

On a side note...

for people who've had tickets here, there is the option to watch videos similar to that (except true stories, mostly of police offers who have lost loved ones) instead of paying for the ticket.

Also, when I was in high school, a classmate of mine was driving recklessly and got in a wreck. She was in a wheelchair for a couple months. Embedded in the steering wheel was one of her teeth. The school actually towed the vehicle to the middle of the school grounds where we could go by and see it when we had free time. It was there for a week.

By "Really Good" I meant the car campaign against reckless driving, drinking, speeding and etc is really good and would serve its purpose. Not that I love seeing people die. I should have phrase it differently I guess.
Still the campaign is very powerful and reaches teens much more clearly than softer ones.

Telling something is usually useless. Sometime, people can't realize the consequences of their actions, even if they know them. It's such as they thought this kind of problems only arrive to others.
A shock campaign like this one, is much more efficient than beautiful speeches
I think the objective is clearly reached, at least for me. I'm quite disgusted by these drivers, and I'll never be like them. Besides, I lost by grandfather that way (a driver not stopped to a traffic circle and hit his bike). Of course, it is the most efficient way, to be faced with this situation. So, this campaign aims to bring those reckless drivers to the reality, by simulating this situation. Even if it is not ethical, emotions may be the better way to make them think.

Some are stupid, like the ones where the car flips out of the blue. What the...?! But the others make a pretty good point.
And there's one that I think it's not only directed to drivers but, also to pedestrians... the one where the girl and boy are texting each other.

Exactly what I wanted to say. Thanks

These videos need to be broadcasted in all Middle and Highschools before those kids get a license they must know what a accidents are. They get the wrong idea that although the car will get trashed there are no further consequences. As for those who are hurt emotinally because of relatives involved in accidents and such, well they already learnt the lesson.

I wish we could do that ...

I guess these two videos really prove the point that we share this world with a *LOT* of very self-centered, self-obsessed or otherwise mindless and stupid people. And, while on the one hand I think we're better off as a society *without* them, the problem is the price they charge to leave this world is frequently too high. Sadly, whomever made these videos forgot to properly include motorcycle drivers. For every one of those "Motorcycles are Everywhere"-type bumper stickers, I wish I had a baseball bat to deal with some idiot on a bike who has qualified as being "in desperate need of a bad end."

The bottom line here is that we need to teach personal responsibility more, and that all actions have consequences.

As a former tow truck driver, I attended several fatal accidents. Those videos are not even close to reality.

There's been a few motorcycle safety ads on TV here in Australia over the past few years:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-yzKvkysWg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bl68iB38GQ

There is a more recent version (that I can't seem to find on youtube) stressing the point that motorcycles are harder to see on the road.

I know cyclists are encouraged to wear high vis clothing and lights, and motorcycles (in Australia anyway) are supposed to have their headlights on at all times, but perhaps they should also wear high vis jackets as well?

Not being a motor cyclist myself, I would rather see more advertising on safety for cyclists - both for cyclist and car driver's sakes. - The number of cyclists on the roads with no lights at night time wearing all black clothing is ridiculous.

Anyway, that's my little rant :P

The second link in the OP are Irish adverts. I'm used to seeing them on TV. Over the years they have become more extreme, like a JOHN WOO movie, more action! death! gore! I was at a music festival and the main screen had warnings in between telling people to be sober, have a full nights sleep etc. It was especially made for the festival.

i still didn't find any "strong" videos about motorcycle dangers, like the importance of wearing the helmet and driving in certain areas and not speeding .. etc

These videos are not very accurate, as anyone who's ever been in or at least seen a serious accident will agree. Do those adverts have the gaudy music when they're played on the television? I know these adverts are supposed to be all emotional-blackmail and stuff but that's just pathetic.

The Irish ones tend to have slower, emotional music. Commonly a recent pop song. I agree they get a shock response, but the accidents I've seen more low key.

My sister was traveling in a car and the driver was drunk. The car came around a blind bend in the road on the wrong side and hit an on coming car. They spun around and came to a stop. Seatbelt's saved their lives.

If it had been an Irish advert had been filmed at the same spot, both cars would have rolled and flip numerous times. At least 2/3 bystanders would have been hit (teenager or mother(survives)/child(dies in a bloodymess)) and one of the cars would have tumbled down the field and into the sea half a mile away.

well if exaggerating is what it takes to make people listen and slow down and be careful while driving, then exaggerations is what should be shown to people.

Like the home security commercials, when the women are home alone, and somebody kicks the door in. It's always a woman, and they have different situations. Some are in the day some at night. They have the teen girl one, to prey on parents. All the other ones seem to be geared into scaring the crap out of single women, so they buy the service.
