Mine has to be "Grandma Goes Shopping With Ubuntu" story in the issue 24 of the full circle magazine (http://fullcirclemagazine.org/issue-24/)

EDIT: You can also read it here (http://dnc.digitalunite.com/2009/03/31/shopping-delivered-by-ubuntu-linux/)

ubuntu is not a person, it can't go shopping and things like that. DUR

*lol*

I remember a person whose friend was being raided (illegally may i mind you) for something with data intrusion or whatever, he was on ubuntu though and the computer guy couldn't do anything about it ^_^

probably not the story you want but a story none the less

I think that "Grandma Goes Shopping With Ubuntu" refers to shopping on the internet using Ubuntu, not going to a shopping center with another person.

wow. Thats the coolest testimonial I think I've ever read. To me, this message hits on some things about FOSS that I am very passionate about and it did me a lot of good to read this. Thanks for sharing!

FOSS?

There are some good stories somewhere on the Ubuntu Disc. I forgot where... but they are copied to disc during install I belive. I'll search for them.

ok, here they are: /home/username/Examples

look around. the case studies most directly address your question, though.

One of my best friends is now an Ubuntu user. He was not tech savvy by really any stretch of the word.

I knew he hated Windows as much as anyone else, but I didn't bother mentioning Ubuntu to him because I thought he would be turned off by having to learn it. One day he was over and I was booted into Ubuntu. I moved a window and he was like... wait... do that again, with the window! It took me a second to realize that he was talking about wobbly windows, and then I gave him the a tour. He stopped me just part of the way through showing him some of the programs, because he had already made his decision: he wanted ubuntu! So, I went over and installed it through Wubi (after a backup, of course). There was an issue with the monitor (it was an HP, and the monitor size and refresh rate wasn't auto-detected), but a quick trip to the forums here fixed that.

He took to Ubuntu better than I did! I talked with him today and to this day he has never booted back into windows. :) He was never into gaming much on XP, but he really liked Warzone 2100. Ubuntu just does everything for him that XP did, but better.

It was some time in February that he switched over.

Moving indeed. I need more stories to read in free time. The testimonials forum is full of doom mongers.
