Hello, everyone!

I've been having a problem with upgrading to Ubuntu 8.10 from 8.04. Whenever I install 8.10 from the alternate cd or over he internet my system won't boot, telling me it gave up waiting for the root partition and then saying ALERT! /dev/hda3 doesn't exist! Droping into a shell! I tried mount /dev/hda3 in the shell but it spat out can't read /etc/fstab: no such file or directory.

I then tried to mount it from a Dapper live cd and got this error:

error: The device /dev/hda3 is not removeable.

error: Could not execute pmount.

Can anyone help me please?
