View Full Version : [ubuntu] Desktop icons have disappeared

'ning all!

In the last 48 hours I have had the same problem on two different PCs running Jaunty.

All of a sudden my desktop icons vanished and selecting 'Computer' from the Places menu does nothing.

Everything is fine after a reboot.

Apart from both machines having Intel chipsets and CPUs, nothing is the same - one is a P4 Dell Optiplex, Intel graphics, with the standard, backport, proposed, restricted, multiverse and universe repos enabled, plus 10 or so third party repos, the other is a 2 month old Gigabyte mainboard with an Intel Core Quad CPU with just the standard repos and Nvidia graphics.

Obviously it's not hugely important, as a reboot sorts it out, but I have no idea if it's a problem that will recur.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Don't know if you have tried it, but try pressing F2 and run "gnome-session". Hope it helps :p

I'm not sure if this will work, since I have never had this problem happen to me, but I think pressing Alt+F2 and running nautilus should work.
