Hi

I've gone ahead and deleted all my partitions and installed Ubuntu 9.0.4 (and replaced my evil Windows XP). Every seems to be working fine except copying files. The performance copy from harddrive to same harddrive is very slow.

Test:

(1) Put 350 mb video file on desktop

(2) Right click on file and choose copy.

(3) On blank space on desktop right click and choose paste.

Result:

File starts to copy at 3.1 mb/s and then slows down to 2.3 mb/s. The result is it takes around 3 minutes to copy this file to the harddrive it exists on.

I have also tried copying to a Sandisk usb 2.0 memory key and USB 2.0 powered harddrive and get the same speeds.

My question (since I have read a lot of messages about copy performance) is how can I troubleshoot this problem. I'm not sure what logs to get and how to figure out if the right drivers are installed. It would be great to get some steps so I can start diagnosing the problem.

Thanks
