Hi there,

I'm new to Linux, having come from Windows. I'm trying to install 9.04 on a brand new system - AMD64, 250Gb HDD, 1Gb RAM. The partitioner fails to see my SATA drive. The SATA drive works fine if I boot using a Windows startup disk and the Ubuntu Partitioner sees an IDE disk. So, it's the combination of Ubuntu and SATA.

I've seen references to AHCI but this isn't an option in my BIOS and sudo fdisk -l does nothing.

Thanks in advance,

Chris

Try the text-based alternate install cd, which seemingly has an easier time with sata drives.

Thanks Merlin,

How do I go about that ?

I've downloaded the Alternate version. However, that doesn't detect a disk drive either. It then asks for a driver for the disk drive (it's a Western Digital 250Gb Sata).

I thought Linux 'Just Works' but I'm having trouble getting it to see this SATA drive.....

Went to the shop and bought an IDE HDD - no problems, all installed....
