Fluxbuntu, uses Gutsy is it possible to use Jaunty instead?

Hey, I'm wondering if there is a way to update the ubuntu part of fluxbuntu from gutsy gibbon to jaunty jackalope. Btw fluxbuntu uses synaptic package manager... if that helps at all. I'm completely new to linux so forgive me.

Hi Jiffypop, Fluxbuntu is a "dead" distro. They have not released any updates or bug fixes since 2007. If you check out the official forums at http://community.fluxbuntu.org/ you'll see it's pretty quiet over there.

I strongly recommend a different distro for your first Linux experience. You will learn much faster and have fewer frustrations if you use a popular distro with support from the developers and an active user community to help you out. You can get a similar experience to Fluxbuntu if you install Ubuntu Jaunty and simply 'sudo apt-get install fluxbox'. Or, you might try Crunchbang, which is an active project with similar goals to Fluxbuntu. If your hardware is very old, you might even try one of the "ultra light" distros such as Puppy or SliTaz. Have you tried xubuntu? It is also a more light weight, very customizable UI.

You could install a minimal Ubuntu system and build up from there.

That guide mentions icewm, but it's no problem to install fluxbox instead. ;)
