I am interested in buying a 7.1 system for my PS3 to take advantage of 7.1 sound, either uncompressed, or in the dobly dts/hd etc formats.

The PS3 decodes the audio formats and then sends them out to the TV or receiver.

So the question is, can I get a receiver that will send the sound to the 7.1 speakers from an hdmi connection, without paying for a decoder in the receiver? All the cheap stuff does passthorgh (sound goes to tv untouched), and the other ones are $800 for the whole theater system, something I just won't spend. Can I get a system for more like $500?

There is also a 360 in the house. Does that decode the best sound on the games available?
