decided to load ubuntu 8.04 since I could not repair my currently running version of kubuntu 8.04. Interesting differences between the two desktop environments.
However, there does not seem to be any way to change the screen resolution. Only two choices available: 800x600 and 640x480.
I'm on a 19" widescreen requiring 1440x900.
I tried enabling the nvidia proprietary driver, but that only made it worse: lost the 800x600 choice.

I had far more control over this in the KDE environment. I'm puzzled why the gnome desktop doesn't seem as flexible.

Any suggestions???

Andalus,
You can add whatever resolutions you want to your xorg config file. heres a link to a forum post that will get you going :)

If you are using nvidia's driver, you'll probably want
to use nvidia's settings panel instead of the Gnome default.

It's in the repos.
