I'm not talking about ps2/3, xbox or nintendo wii here. I'm talking the atari 2600, colecovision, intellivision, the original NES, sega master system, sega genesis etc. So what is your favorite old video game console? Personally I love the atari 2600, not only is it my favorite but I think its the best system of all time. My favorite game would probably be Caverns of Mars but I really like Pac-Man too even though most people think the atari 2600 version totally sucked. One of these days I am going to get the atari logo tattooed on me somewhere. Also, I eventually want to get around to learning 6502 assembly so I can write my own atari 2600 games

Wow I think i am to young for the atari 2600! But for my generation the Nintendo Super Mario is the bomb!! I just recently down loaded a bunch of old games on my pc. And it brings back some great memories, my wife loves Dr. Mario! I dont get it but hey what ever floats your boat, we also LOVE the old paper boy games! Thanks for the topic fun to think about old games! one of my passions!

The original Zelda on the 8 bit Nintendo. That game was amazing in it's time.

SNES Super Metroid.

Excellent game, great controls and gameplay, story not really required (it has, but not something like a final fantasy). Better than a lot of crap put out today!

man i would love to get my hands on a Sega Genesis... I loved some less-popular games like Vectorman, Cyborg Justice, and also, of course, all the Sonic games (who DOESN'T love those?)!

There was this lesser known Sonic games called Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine which was sort of a "Bejeweled" type of game. I freekin loved it.

haha, i love those "shortcuts" they have on random levels that require either a speed boost or a little hop over some hidden gap. if you knew those shortcuts, you officially ruled at that game!

and the multiplayer mode with the 3 balloons spinning around you, was pure genius!

The first one on the nes was better.

I had the very first "game console" ever made back in 1972. The Magnavox Odessey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnavox_Odyssey) came with 2 games. Pong and Hockey. It cost us $200 back in '72 which is like paying $1500 today.

But my favorite retro console is the original NES.

Favorite console and game, I'd say the Super NES with Star Fox. I really liked that game as a kid. Super Mario All-Stars was cool too.

As for handheld, I liked Game Gear more than my Game Boy, mostly because I love Sonic.

I can't just pick one, I have some fond memories. :)

Still have my NES hooked up and running, recorded all of my phone tones directly off of it.

We had a Odyssey 2 when I was real little. I remember playing football, and baseball on it. The yellow team, and the blue team.

Atari is beyond my day but a couple years, I remember playing a Cat N Mouse game on the old Commodore 64 and the blackjack game use to keep me occupied for hours as a child but out of this list I'd give my vote to the NES... original.

My favorite games were Double Dragon, Doctor Mario, Blades of Steel <---.

I still remember my Dad paying $80 for Mario Bro's 3 when it came out, and blowing into those damn games, occasionally hitting them so we could get them to work.

Not as old school as you guys, but I loved TMNT: Turtles in Time and the Double Dragon games.

EDIT: Just realized I should have given Montreal a +1 for double dragon :P

Man you just hit me were it hurts... I have a weakness for retro gaming.

I have a ton of consoles but my favorite is the Atari 2600/7800 and the 800xl. As a matter of fact I just bought some homebrew titles for the 7800.

If you like PacMan you owe it to yourself to get the PacMan Arcade (http://www.atariage.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=21_85_39&products_id=104) hack of Mrs.PacMan by Rob Kudla (screenshots) (http://www.atariage.com/hack_page.html?SystemID=2600&SoftwareHackID=5)... it really is what PacMan should have been back when Atari released that horrible rushed out junk they called PacMan... till this day I hate them for that huge disappointment I felt when I brought that crap home.

Now days the homebrew crowd is putting out some quality games that makes even the best games by Imagic & Ativision pale in comparison.

One in particular... LadyBug (http://www.atariage.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=21_85_24&products_id=829). Let's just say that game made my jaw drop.

In case you are not in tune... make your way to AtariAge (http://www.atariage.com/index.html) and join the fun with the latest and greatest from that community... I been a part of it for a few year now, and have bought a ton of their new games including a flash cart that allows me to load ROM's to test demos and help with reporting bugs of games in development...

Of late... the 7800 has been blessed with titles never released before of aracade classics...
Burger Time
Q-Bert
Super PacMan
Jr PacMan
PacMan Collection (includes all this in 1 cart)
* Pac-Man (The Original!)
* Puck Man (Same game, more difficult maze)
* Hangly Man (Empty Mazes? Vertical Tunnels? Invisible Mazes?)
* Ultra Pac-Man (6 New Mazes for a new variety)
* Random Mazes* (You just never know which maze will appear next!)
* Ms. Pac-Man (The second installment of the Pac-Family)
* Ms. Pac-Attack (Same game, more challenging mazes)
* Ms. Random Mazes* (Like Random Mazes above, but with the Ms. flavor)
Asteroids Deluxe
Space Duel
Space Invaders

All nearly perfect ports... yeah I'm loving it :lolflag:

I was too young to really be into gaming when those consoles were out, but if I had to choose, it'd be the SNES, just because of Chrono Trigger.
