Characters in Wizards 101 Not Appearing

I'm installing Wizards 101 on my laptop for my little brother using Wine. It *seems* to have installed correctly. Everything downloaded okay, and the game runs. The only problem is that none of the in-game characters appear. We're unable to make a character or see anyone, yet all the scenery loaded without problem. Any ideas?
