Transfer/copy Ubuntu system to another computer?

I'd like to copy my Ubuntu installation from my laptop to a stationary. Is it possible, and if it is, what would be the best way to do it?

I've searched the forums for similar posts but didn't find anything. Maybe I didn't put in the right keywords?

you could look at cloning the hard drive, however this will also take all of the laptop specific stuff over too (drivers etc..). Im not sure if theres a way to migrate all of your users settings and installed programs/packages though?
