all,

Is there an MMX specific kernel for the 2.6 series?
i am running a old P1MMX 266Mhz tosh tecra 550cdt on dapper (was running hardy, but some USB and PCMCIA issues), and just wanted to find out if a MMX kernel would gie any improvements over the standard i386 kernel's

If you compile your own Linux kernel you have the possibility to optimize it for your processor. This includes support for MMX instructions afaik.

Other than that you can look for another kernel within your Synaptic Package Manager (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synaptic_package_manager) to see if they have one of these MMX optimized kernels.
