This problem has been with me for the past week. I was prompted to upgrade to KDE 4.3 RC1 (4.2.95), which went well enough, but once I logged back into KDE, the taskbar seemed to have disappeared. Sure, it was still there (believe me, I checked on the available widgets, and it indicated that the task manager was in use), but it's not.

I'm wondering if this stems from the fact that eleven updates are currently blocked, if it's an authentication issue, or anything like that.

I currently have Kubuntu Jaunty Jackalope installed.

UPDATE: Went to the KDE forums to see if I could find an answer to my problem, saw this message (http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=67&t=62182&hilit=task+manager#p81904), followed the advice, and that did the trick.
