Hello!
Today during the regular software upgrade, the system (Ubuntu 9.04) halted when installing pidgin package. After a forced reboot I get the "failed initialize HAL". I am not able to do anything, all pheripherals are dead, keyboard, mouse....
Help appreciated.):P

Used the recovery mode and repaired pidgin and repaired unfinished installed packages. The HAL problem is still present. No interaction with the notebook possible.

I repaired the packages again and there is an error with the libcompress-raw-zlib-perl

dpkg (subprocess): unable to execute post-intallation script: exec format error
dpkg: error processing libcompress-raw-zlib-perl (--configure): subprocess post installation script returned error exit status 2

Sorry for being unpatient but I had to reinstall the system again. I guess I will never know the solution to this problem.
