Upgrading ubuntu desktop...

I don't know it this is the right forum but I hope you can help me. I recently tried the kubuntu desktop and I really like the ability to put widgets onto your desktop. However overall I like ubuntu better.

My question is, is there a way to install widgets onto the ubuntu desktop in a similar way that kubuntu does.

If there is a way I would be really interested to know how. Thanks in advance.

You could check out Screenlets (in the repos)

Does a very similar job and has a lot of available screenlets and themes available.
