I was interested in doing a install of 904 on to my flash drive. Theres two problems that seem to make me different than the others who want to do the same thing.

1) I am currently on a vista PC
2) I want a full install, not the live cd on my flash drive.

Reason being that I cannot install ubuntu to my hdd due to warranty issues.

Thanks everyone!

Have you tried to run a normal installation and then to use
the usb stick as if it were a normal harddisk?
(do not create any swap partition)

I haven't tried the "usb stick installation" lately, but is the usb stick
mounted read-only after installation? If not you can simply
boot it and add any additional software you need.

Yes and yes, the first one just wont work at all. The installer dosen't see my usb drive. And the "USB Startup Disc" is just like making the live cd, which isn't what i want.

Are you starting the installer from the Live CD boot screen or from Gnome after the Live CD desktop has loaded?
If the latter, does the USB drive mount when you plug it in?
Try another flash drive. They're cheap enough.
By the way, I used these instructions to install (http://beastie.cs.ua.edu/cs150/usb-install.html) and configure (http://beastie.cs.ua.edu/cs150/configuration.html) my Ubuntu flash drive install. They cover some helpful hints to improve performance and prevent flash drive wear.
