That bit the dust a while back.
PS: FreeDos (http://www.freedos.org) -- great for flashing BIOS updates. Basically an open-source clone of M$DOS, only better.

Well, there is Drathmar's Total System Control from Altair IV, but that was only popular in the mid-2200s on one of their southern continents and really didn't prove to be successful off-world.

AROS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AROS)- clone of AmigaOS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AmigaOS)
Haiku (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haiku_(operating_system))- Clone of BeOS
BeOS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BeOS)- An OS started by a guy who got fired from Apple
NeXTSTEP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NeXTSTEP): Steve Jobs' started a new company when Apple fired him in the 80's, so he started a different OS, which ironically was bought out by Apple.
IBM OS/2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_OS/2): A great failure.
IRIX (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IRIX)- The Failed OS from SGI, creators of OpenGL.
Inferno (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inferno_(operating_system))- A Bell Labs Operating System based on Plan9 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plan_9_from_Bell_Labs).
ReactOS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReactOS)- A free software clone of MS Windows, based on information from the Wine project. I think I recall reading that ReactOS and Wine both share bugfixes back and forth and strengthen one anothers' implementations.

I took it in context. The user is new to the forum, and used the word other in the title. I took it as Linux being the first "unknown" (which it is for the majority) You have to remember not everyone knows about this stuff. Most people don't even know what Linux is. Go ask 10 people on the street what freeBSD, or Solaris is. I bet you nine of them will have no clue what your talking about. Your taking your geekyness for granted.
Add: 1/10 is to high of a ratio. It's probably more like 1/100

It is unheard of though. Most people I know have no idea what Linux is. Even the ones that are using it, don't know what it is.

Isn't that the truth, however most people don't even know what an operating system is so I guess its not too surprising.

I know this is really unnecessary info, but here are the numbers:
About 1.2% of all computer users (not servers) use Linux
About 33% of all Linux desktop users use Ubuntu
1.2% divided by 33% is rounded to about 0.4%

Well I know for sure I am trying to get an SGI 02 back up and running over here. Found an early version of Irix 5.5 over here. Trying to get it to install on the O2 over here when I have a chance to. So far no luck. been trying to get some more information about how to get it to boot off of the cdrom on it. But having a heck of a time in just trying to get a terminal in order to just mount it from the bios. OS/2 from IBM used to be cool to try and use as well. There are not that many new alternative Operating systems beside the three OS's that are known. Windows, OSX, and linux (No specific distro). Too bad there are not that many other that could be found.

Friend: What is this "ubuntu" you are running? How do I use it?
Me: It's a Linux distrobution geared towards new users of Linux.
F: What's Linux?
M: It's an alternative Operating system...

You still even need a product key for it- I mean, really: what is your problem, Microsoft?!? What's the point of offering a free OS for download when you still have to have a product key, which you get for free, but you still don't have a complete OS.

IDRIS was System V clone written by an ex AT&T employee. For one thing it ran on an obscure color graphics work station made by Chromatics, Inc. out of Atlanta.
