origami not auto-starting in ubuntu 9.04

I'm having some issues since upgrading to Ubuntu 9.04 in that my origami Folding@Home client will not auto start. The one "fix" that I have found is to disable the boot splash, but I'm wondering if anyone can make any sense of this "fix" to me. There has got to be a more appropriate solution to the problem.
