View Full Version : [wubi] Q on Installing Inside Windows

I am considering installing Ubuntu. I currently have a dual boot with XP on disk(0), and a damaged W2K on disk(1). I want to install Ubuntu on disk(1) to replace W2K.

In <https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Wubi>, there is a note (2nd note in the page) that states "Since Wubi installs Ubuntu on the same file partition as Windows,...".

In But, in step 2, just above the note, it clearly shows that there is a choice of which partition/disk on which to install. The current partition drive letter assigned is I:\ for disk(1), (from within XP).

Questions are: Will my I:\ drive appear on the choice menu? Will Ubuntu install there and "preserve" the existing boot.ini on my disk(0) C:\ XP drive without messing with the MBR on disk(0)? Will the file systems of both SP, and Ubuntu installations be visible and usable from each?

Thanks,

Dave
