I just installed 9.04.
Using either apt-get or aptitude Synaptic or Update Manager each hangs on:
Get:1 http://archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/man Packages [1253kB]
The box requires a hard shutdown at this point.
I ran apt-get check and it seemed OK.
