Is there a way to place a desktop icon without snapping, so that I can put it exactly where I want it?

Theres probably a way to disable the grid in gconf somehow.

Right-click on the desktop and uncheck "Keep aligned"?

+1 Gnome is just so simple-I just keep missing things because the menus aren't cluttered enough. It's just not complicated enough like windows where everything is listed everywhere so you can't miss it.

On a more serous note, how did I miss that? And thanks for the help with the silly question](*,)
