I really want to learn Japanese :) But I don't know where to start! Does anyone know of any good CDs, books, websites etc. that can teach me Japanese?

(by the way, I want to learn Japanese because I have been sucked into Japanese music, commonly known as "J-pop". I want to understand the songs and maybe even move on to watching anime in Japanese without subtitles :O)

Watching anime with subtitles already helps a lot. Japanese isn't exactly the easiest language to learn. I guess you can watch a lot and a lot more anime. That's how I learn Italian and German ;). SERIOUSLY!!

EDIT: OK German and Italian aren't Japanese just consider the link above. Sorry for confusing you. Hell I want to learn Japanese too now. Seriously!!

Do what I did - find a native speaker and exchange your English for their Japanese. You'll learn alot faster from 1 half hour face to face lesson with a native speaker than you will with 10 hours from a book or DVD.

I know, because I've been there :) Japanese is actually quite an easy language to learn. Its just the chars that are a bitch.

Spoken japanese is actually relatively easy to learn, the difficulty comes with the written language, which is composed by 3 alphabets, Kanji (complex characters derived directly from chinese), Hiragana (syllabic characters used for japanese words) and Katakana (syllabic characters used for words that come from other languages). Try this sites http://www.sf.airnet.ne.jp/~ts/japanese/cover.html
