When upgrading to Ubuntu 9.04 I lost performance, nice effects like Workspace Switcher actually moving the desktop (with background) and many more things. 'Microsoft style' if you will ...

Also I lost my desktop wallpaper (one of the defaults from Intrepid, I think it was called 'Dark Room'). I can find many screenshots with that wallpaper on the web but not the wallpaper file itself. Any suggestions (short of re-installing 8.10)? (I need it for a 1400x1050 laptop display).

Well if you have a few screenshots you can remake it if it's not too busy. You just need to make sure you can handle photoshop. Not sure how you would go about doing it in gimp, but in photoshop, you can just layer on the different screenshots, and when it's different, you can cut that region out. Move it down a layer, that wy it covers up the icons. Then all you have to do is resize it. Other than that I'm not sure where you can find the file than by asking a member who runs it, or trough gnome-look.org.
