update error - need some help

Still working through some issues on a new Xubuntu 9.04 install on an old Inspiron 2500 laptop.

This morning I've encountered an error that is prohibiting me from installing updates. Here is the text from the error message:

dpkg: unrecoverable fatal error, aborting:
syntax error: unknown group 'mlocate' in statoverride file
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.
