Hi all!
I'm installing ubuntu on a dell inspiron 1501, with a 2.6.1 bios version.
I cannot modify the bios, because the notebook was sold with vista, and the utility to upgrade bios crashes in Vista.

So, this is the situation: I can only install by cd (and not by usb pen drive).

putting on a cd with jaunty or hardy the live cd stops after I choose to start.

To start, I have to boot from a gutsy or a feisty (7.10 or 7.04) and upgrade three times.

In every case, I give ever the option pci=nomsi

So, my question is:

what is changed in booting between the 7.10 and the 8.04?

is it possible to start directly from a jaunty?
I would put on the pc directly an ubuntu 64 on a ext4 partition.
