Hi all,

Sorry if someone has asked but I cannot work out how to install Ubuntu onto a memory stick. I run Vista on my laptop main HDD, and have a live version of 9.04 on CD-ROM but want to run it on a memory stick till I can put a second HDD in my laptop for the future. I am new to Linux and not too familiar with terminal use but am willing.

Cheers

You can also use Unetbootin: http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/

I tried installing and all went well until the grub install came up with a fatal error. Everything looks OK but it wont boot, how do you manually install a boot loader onto it, I've been trying with no joy. :frown:

I think it could be my memory stick playing up as Unetbootin ran fine but couldn't get USB stick to boot (it hung with a flashing cursor straight away). I will pop out in a bit to buy a new one and try again; maybe I'll have more joy then.

I installed Ubuntu 9.04 OK on USB stick now, grub seems to work OK, however it stops dead stating that it cannot find the system. It drops to a command line but the built in ASH.

Close but no Cigar.......any ideas what I did wrong? ](*,)

I have to admit defeat. Just can't get it to run, boot loader menu comes up now and when I select the menu option it tries to load but the above fault happens. :(
