Hi
I am planning to install ubuntu on an system which already runs XP

Its an AMD Athlon 64 bit processor. From what I understand I can install x86 ubuntu binary here?
On the current system I have left 100GB of a unpartitioned space on the hard drive. That's where I need to install ubuntu. I guess at the time of installation I can ask the installer to format to ext3 ?

Appreciate your response
Thanks
Monmohan

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Yes you can install Ubuntu on an Athlon 64. During installation, there is a partitioning wizard that will help you setup your free space for use with Linux.

I would suggest you read some and familiarize yourself with the process of installing Ubuntu so that you have a good idea of just what it is you are going to do before you actually do it. here are a few links for you:

http://www.ubuntupocketguide.com/index_main.html -for a pdf Ubuntu Pocket Guide that has a good step by step on the install process, and much more.
